WHO WE ARE

We are a group of Christians who are discovering the joy, love and peace in Jesus Christ our Saviour. Our aim is to see God’s kingdom come in our own lives, in the church and in the world.

We are an ecumenical partnership of four Christian traditions: Anglican, Baptist, Methodist and United Reformed Church. We are under the umbrella of Somerset Churches Together, which is itself part of Churches Together in England, and are members of Churches Together in Weston. At Locking Castle Church we are committed to working together, standing shoulder to shoulder in the work of the gospel. Although we come from different traditions (and some from none), we see our diversity as a strength and a sign of God’s creativity. `On the necessary points, unity; on the questionable points, liberty; in everything, love.’

We are evangelical in belief and character. Evangelical comes from the New Testament and means good news or gospel. At Locking Castle Church we seek to be a people of good news, committed to presenting the authentic teaching of the Christian faith in word and action, committed to taking the good news of Jesus Christ into Locking Castle, Weston Village and beyond.

We are also charismatic in belief and character. `Charisma’ also comes from the New Testament, and means a gift or an expression of God’s grace. Therefore, we aim to be a people of grace using the gifts of the Holy Spirit to the glory of God.

The main areas of our life together are worship, ministry, evangelism, discipleship, and fellowship.

Worship is loving God with all our hearts, with the whole of our lives offered to God in humble service (Matthew 4:10).

Ministry is loving our neighbour as ourselves. The church exists to demonstrate God’s love in action (1 John 3:18).

Evangelism is the communication of God’s good news of forgiveness through Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection (Acts 2:38).

Discipleship is about growing in Christ-like character and behaviour (Ephesians 4:11-13).

Fellowship is about belonging as well as believing. Fellowship begins with baptism, which not only symbolises our new life in Christ, it also symbolises belonging to the body of Christ, the Church (Ephesians 4:5; Colossians 2:12).
